Bulgaria

Traditional eastern arabic dessert Baklava with Turkish honey and walnuts, selective focus.

Adelina Hristova was born in Bulgaria and immigrated to Canada 27 years ago and then to Moscow, Idaho. She and her family moved to State College, PA 15 years ago. While her partner, Alex worked as a researcher and professor, Adelina was working as a teacher, volunteer, and student while raising her children. She started her own publishing agency in 2017 and recently published her first cookbook, 3 Simple Ingredients in 33 Favorite Dishes.

Adelina says “Back in Bulgaria when I was growing up, my grandma used to bake a delicious pumpkin dessert. My mom added her touch to it by transforming the pumpkin dessert into a pumpkin baklava. To record this and many other recipes from the old country, I compiled a list of the family favorites and published our first cookbook.”

The three ingredients are yogurt, feta cheese, and walnuts. Adelina will share four of these recipes. “Cooking with the three ingredients is easy and satisfying, especially when we use our Halloween pumpkins instead of wasting them!”
