Students tackle abandoned mine drainage | Healing the Red Moshannon

A group of four students gathered behind a computer monitor.

Tackling the problem of cleaning up acid mine drainage from abandoned coal mines in central Pennsylvania, a citizens’ action group engaged teams of Penn State Environmental Engineering students to create proposals for three strategically placed treatment plants to restore life to sections of the Moshannon Creek that have not seen wild trout for generations.
