Multicultural Children’s Festival

An estimated 800 people attended the first annual WPSU Multicultural Children’s festival at WPSU Studios in Innovation Park, on Saturday April 22.

Families visited cultural tables, had their name written in different languages, watched the amazing performances, and picked up books and other items to take home and continue to conversation about the strong fabric woven from multiculturalism and inclusiveness.

Black Maternal Health and Medical Equity

WPSU hosted a free online screening and discussion about Black maternal health and medical equity. The documentary watched through the OVEE video platform wass Voices: A Childbirth Crisis.

Karen ArmstrongKaren Armstrong – 3:00 p.m. Moderator

Karen Armstrong is the Director of the Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity for Penn State’s Outreach and Online Education. She is a clinically trained counselor, with extensive experience supporting minoritized and disenfranchised populations. She is a diversity, equity, and inclusion subject matter expert, who fosters strategic plans yielding systemic change in higher education. A continual collaborator, with over 20 years of experience in education, strategic planning, and community outreach, Karen is always seeking new opportunities for partnership and growth.

Marie Boone-Clark – 7:00 p.m. Moderator

Marie Boone-Clark is an experienced Business Development Strategist. Her career spans 30+ years, including leadership and expertise in marketing, medical sales, and operations with Mead Johnson Nutrition. Marie is co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Antonia & Grace, a Public Benefit Corporation that provides subscription-based, culturally fluent health concierge services for birthing people. Marie obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of Evansville. She is mom to Grace and grandparent to two-year-old twins, and she currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Kenda holds a Bachelor’s in Health Science and is also a Doula Trainer, Diversity Equity Inclusion Consultant, Policy Analyst, CPR Instructor, Holistic Nutritionist, Lamaze Childbirth Educator, Certified Lactation Counselor, Reproductive Justice and Maternal health advocate.

WPSU Eventapalooza 2021

Sunday, October 24, 1:00–4:00 p.m.

WPSU is excited to bring back to our largest community event of the year.  We’re moving Eventapalooza outside and hope to take advantage of the beautiful and cool fall weather. We’ll have plenty of space in the Outreach Building parking lot for participants to spread out, stay safe, and have a blast!

This year’s theme is Family. From family trees to traditions, bring your crew to enjoy an afternoon of fun and togetherness.

  • Experiments, crafts, and take-and-make kits from WPSU, Penn State, and community organizations
  • Free WPSU grab and go bags*
  • PBS KIDS character standees for selfies
  • Registration is required.

*First 500 children who attend in-person, contents appropriate for children 3 to 10 years old.

Weather Cancellation Plan

In the event of inclement weather,WPSU will make a decision to move the even indoors or cancel it. If it is canceled, we still want to provide your kiddos with something fun to do that day! WPSU staff will be at the parking lot building entrance 1:00–3:00 p.m., or while supplies last, to hand out our grab and go bag.

WPSU events follow the Coronavirus guidance set forth by Penn State:

  • You are encouraged to wear a mask as many of our young attendees do not qualify for vaccinations.
  • Tables will be spaced appropriately for social distancing protocols.
  • Tables will be equipped with sanitation supplies.

The Traveling Wall at Penn State: Retrospective
