November Meeting wrap up

Good afternoon WPSU Board members, Tracey Huston, invited guests and staff!

Thank you to all who were able to join us this morning.  We hope you found the conversation around diversity, equity, and inclusion to be engaging and actionable.

We thank Dr. Peggy Lorah who kept us engaged and inspired us to think deeply and in new ways to take our next steps in this ongoing directive.

We look forward to continuing these conversations throughout the upcoming year and beyond and will be working with our own Outreach DEI director Karen Armstrong to build on the foundation that each of you helped create this morning.

Here are the links to materials that were presented as part of the discussion today:

The link to our website that Greg mentioned with the WPSU Editorial Guidelines and Code of Ethics can be found here.

The link to the Pennsylvania PBS website where you can opt in to receive their newsletter can be found here.

The article WPSU producer Lindsey Whissel Fenton spoke of called: “Strategy is Not Enough:  The Importance of Changing the Culture of Public Media” can be found here.

You are welcome to join the Recap of the 2020 election results and what they mean for public broadcasting with the APTS team and their special guest, Amna Nawaz from the PBS NewsHour,  tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Amna Nawaz has been with the PBS NewsHour since 2018, where she is senior national correspondent and primary substitute anchor. Her reporting covers a wide array of issues and she was part of the PBS NewsHour’s election night coverage this year.

Register for the call on November 19 at 1:00 p.m., by clicking here.

The Virtual APTS Public Media Summit will be held Monday, February 22 – Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  It is the largest annual gathering of public broadcasting general managers and community leaders who come together to explore issues that are vital to the future and mission of public service media.

There is one (1) Board slot open as John Pozza claimed one during the meeting. Please let me (cld285@psu.edu) if you are interested in attending.  First come; first served.

Shortly, we will have materials and the recording link (minus the zoom bombing) on our WPSU Board Portal.  Simply head to wpsu.org, scroll down to bottom of Home page – click on “Board Portal”.  The password is:  welovewpsupennstate.

Please allow us time to make the appropriate edits and thanks!

Please be safe, well and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.

We are most thankful for each of you!

Best,

Carolyn Donaldson
