Iron Chef, father, husband, James Beard Award-winner, entrepreneur, and food innovator, Chef Jose Garces is known as a leading culinary authority of Spanish and Latin-American food.
From the Spanish tapas at Amada, his first restaurant, to the rotating tasting menus at Volvér at the Kimmel Cultural Campus, Chef Garces continually pushes the boundaries of culinary excellence.
While he maintains his successful career owning and operating full-service restaurants, Chef Garces is also looking toward the future, with an increased focus on bringing restaurant-quality experiences to the homes and businesses of culinary enthusiasts in new and interesting ways. From enhanced home delivery options and virtual online cooking demos, to live online cooking classes, Chef Garces is excited to connect with both fans of his work on television, as well as the home cook who’d like to experience “chef life” in their own kitchen.
As a child of immigrants and a leader in the diverse and inclusive hospitality industry, the wellbeing of his community in Philadelphia has always been dear to Chef Garces’ heart. To help provide ongoing and actionable assistance to the immigrant community, Chef Garces co-founded The Garces Foundation in 2011. The Garces Foundation provides services, including community health days, English language skills classes that target the restaurant industry, and most recently, an increased focus on procuring and providing food supplies to the food insecure.
As part of our fundraising weekend, WPSU is offering Chef Garces's Cookbook “The Latin Road Home” at the Friday VIP Cooking Class and at the Saturday Connoisseur's Dinner.
Chef Garces will be available during the dinner and reception Saturday evening to personalize cookbooks purchased from WPSU.*
If you cannot attend the dinner, Chef Garces will personalize a bookplate WPSU will mail to you.
*Cookbook must be purchased from WPSU.
Dazzle guests at your next gathering by learning how to create a gourmet taco bar.
Chef Garces will NOT be there in person at VIP Cooking Class. He will Zoom in at the beginning of the class to greet the participants.
Chefs Tati and Derek Polay, from The Cakeshop by Tati, will be guiding our guests through the recipes. Tati is originally from Peru and both she and Derek are professional chefs, having trained at the Culinary Institute of America. Both have worked in several NYC restaurants and bakeries and currently run their own bakery in Pleasant Gap, with occasional pop-up dinners in the area.
Includes all ingredients, the meal your team created, and wine service (BYOB is not allowed). All proceeds benefit WPSU-TV.
The online registration for the 2023 Connoisseur’s Dinner and Auction is closed.
