Make Your Own Potting Mix

Images of ingredient bags to make potting mix, including perlite, vermiculite and peat moss.

Learn to make your own potting mix to grow plants indoors or on your deck. It’s a simple recipe, though it lacks an ingredient you might expect to be included: soil. Instead it’s a mix of ingredients like peat moss, perlite, vermiculite and compost. If you do a lot of planting in pots, making your own potting media can be better — and cheaper — than buying a bag from the store.
