Now that the holiday buzz is starting to slow down, it’s time to get ready to ring in the new year! Whether you’re planning a chill night with close friends or a fancy party with everyone you know, you definitely want to commemorate 2011 with a killer playlist of the songs that mark favorite memories of the year. Here are four easy tips for creating the perfect party playlist for New Year’s Eve:

Talain Rayne at the 10/14 SPA Noontime Concert - A Review

Talain Rayne and his drummer Isaac Tucker brought their alternative/electronica style to SPA’s noontime show last Friday as part of the weekly concert series. Talain and Isaac, who are only two parts of the five-person band, delivered a crowd-pleasing performance and were definitely a great band to feature for the series.

Alternative/electronica musician Talain Rayne is scheduled to perform at Friday’s noontime concert at the HUB’s first floor lounge as part of Penn State’s Student Programming Association’s (SPA) Noontime Concert Series. If I were you, I definitely wouldn’t miss it.

Ryan Tennis at the SPA Noontime Concert Series, 9/16 - Show Review

Last Friday, Ryan Tennis and his accompanist, Brahm Benzlinger, brought their original folk acoustic sound to Penn State. They performed at the HUB’s first-floor lounge as part of the Student Programming Association’s (SPA) Noontime Concert Series.

Upbeat acoustic singer Ryan Tennis will perform this Friday, September 16th, as part of the Student Program Association (SPA) Noontime Concert Series. The show will begin at 12:00 p.m. on the first-floor lounge in the HUB.

Charlotte Sometimes at SPA’s Noontime Concert Series - 9/2 Show Review

Charlotte Sometimes and her pianist, Patrick Firth, took the stage, or the “carpet” as Charlotte called it, at 12:20 this past Friday at the first-floor lounge in the HUB-Robeson Center. Her performance was part of Student Programming Association’s (SPA) Noontime Concert Series, a weekly event that’s free for the public. The show had a coffeehouse feel, which created a relaxed atmosphere and more intimate connection between Charlotte and the audience.
Most of Charlotte’s recordings feature a full band (drums, other percussion, electric guitars, etc.) to create her signature indie pop/alternative rock sound. However, today she only had a piano and acoustic guitar backing up her vocals. This simplified version of her music gave the show a MTV Unplugged vibe. I’m a huge acoustic fan, so I appreciated this change of pace. Charlotte also implemented some scatting techniques in her songs, which made her performance pretty interesting.

Charlotte Sometimes to Play SPA Noontime Concert Series this Friday

This Friday, September 2nd, the Student Program Association (SPA) Noontime Concert Series will feature indie pop singer Charlotte Sometimes. The Concert Series occurs weekly at 12:00 p.m. on Fridays at the first-floor lounge in the HUB. All shows are free for the public, and are the perfect way to end a hectic week of classes, exams and meetings.

Dispatch at the BJC - 8/28/11 Concert Review

Last night’s Dispatch concert was definitely one to remember. The show was one of few the band has performed since its 2002 hiatus. Nonetheless, this American indie/roots band brought its unique reggae sound mixed with some rock, ska and even rap to the Bryce Jordan Center (BJC) without any hesitations. I think it’s safe to say that Dispatch is back and better than ever.
