Lyon
Family Ensemble
Hear Allegheny Sounds featuring the Lyon Family Chamber Ensemble
The
Lyon Family Chamber Ensemble consists of four members of the Lyon family. James
Lyon and oldest daughter Clara play violin and Carol and youngest
daughter Elizabeth are on cello. This phenomenal family ensemble has performed
at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York and had an extensive performance tour of
Australia in 2002.
Professor
James Lyon came to Penn State University to head the violin studio in 1991 from
a career as a professional orchestral performer and chamber musician. Educated
at the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Eastman School of Music, West Texas
State University and Yale Summer School of Music, Prof. Lyon has studied with
many of the top musicians of our time, as well as members of the Cleveland, Tokyo
and Fine Arts Quartet. He has performed as a member of the Louisville Orchestra,
the Rochester Philharmonic, and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and has served as
concertmaster of the symphony orchestra of Amarillo, Texas and Altoona, PA. He
is currently concertmaster of the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra. Carol
Lyon is the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra's principal cellist and 18-year violinist
Clara also performs with orchestra. She will be leaving State College in the fall
to study at Julliard School of Music in New York City. The family plans to continue
to perform together throughout the region, and is nurturing youngest child, Nicholas,
to join the group on violin.
